Also known as the press pot or la cafetiere, the French press is my favorite coffee brewing method. It’s a simple and cheap coffee brewing method that can be done at home. All you need is a French press, ground coffee, boiling water, a spoon, and within minutes you’ll have a cup of strong and thick coffee.
Rinse the French press with hot water, including the plunger. Make sure to swirl the water around the entire press for at least ten seconds. Discard the water after.
Heat water until it begins to boil. Let it sit for 30 seconds.
Pour ground coffee into the French press making sure it spreads evenly. Fill it about one-quarter full.
Pour the boiling water thoroughly over the grounds filling the French press halfway to the top. Set a count up timer immediately after.
At the 30 second point gently stir the mixture with your spoon. Then fill the French press to the top with the rest of the boiling water and let it seep until the timer reaches four minutes.
Slowly push the plunger all the way down to filter the grounds from the coffee. Immediately pour the coffee into a mug. Coffee left in a French press for too long becomes bitter.
