The latte macchiato has the same two ingredients as a latte: milk and espresso. Unlike the latte, the latte macchiato places much more emphasis on the milk than the latte does.
The latte macchiato is made by frothing milk and pouring it in a cup. However, the milk is frothed for a longer period of time with the latte macchiato, which creates more foam. Once the frothed milk is in the cup espresso is poured in from a shot glass which marks the milk (macchiato means stained in Italian). The espresso can also be poured over the back of a spoon to layer the drink.
The latte macchiato has a stronger espresso taste than a latte as it is all concentrated at the center of the drink.
